BE YOUR OWN BOSS

Key ingredients for a successful Startup

Being an entrepreneur, these days, can be a challenging adventure! Ensuring your Startup business is successful is just one of the many aspects of owning a business. Luckily this is not impossible, besides grit and determination, there are 5 key ingredients you can undertake to ensure your business is not only sustainable in the long term but successful too!
7-October
  1. Create a balanced workplace culture
You cannot expect your clients to love your business if your employees do not love it first. Although this may sound cliché, it is certainly true. Working on a balanced work culture of work hard, play hard and get it done through teamwork is the best gift you can give your business. An office or team culture that is incentivised by rewards is a great way to motivate those who are driven by financial reward. For those that want to feel valued, discuss their needs with them and bring in things to your workplace that speaks to those values. You are only as good as your team, so ensure your team is well looked after!
  2. Stick to what you are good at and outsource the rest
The spirit of an entrepreneur is usually based on wanting to do everything yourself, no job is too difficult or challenging to tackle with a ‘can do’ attitude. Unfortunately, if you find yourself wearing many different hats at the same time, the chances are good that you will drop the ball on one of them and it may have catastrophic consequences for your business. Find the aspects you are good at, focus on those and outsource the rest. There is no shame in not being able to be the business owner, accountant, technician, repairman, support, Human Resources, colleague, boss etc. Stick to what you are good at and enlist help for the rest!
  3. Continuously work on your brand
Treat your business like you would treat your partner. Take the time to work on your brand’s identity, culture, awareness and footprint. All these aspects of your business require your time and energy in order for it to grow and be a success. Without marketing, signage or a digital footprint, you cannot expect your business to grow and your revenue to increase. Define a proper marketing strategy and work at it constantly to ensure you can compete with your rivals for your piece of the business pie.
  4. Expand on what sets you apart from the competition
Speaking of your competition… Set out to convey the differentiator between your business and your competitors. Build on what sets your business apart to attract customers. In a world where consumers are spoilt for choice, you will want to be seen as the ‘better’ option due to your excellent service skills, quality of products, industry knowledge or professional delivery.
  5. Take the time to understand your clients
Understanding and then catering to your target market is worth its weight in gold. Learn from your mistakes and improve on them while evolving with the wants and needs of your clients.
